April 24, 2026 – Nine in ten non-dairy cheese consumers also eat dairy products, indicating that strict veganism is not the most important factor driving the category. Although lower, a still substantial 39% of dairy cheese consumers also eat dairy alternative products, which may simply reflect an affinity for certain products in at least one of those five categories. These high levels of cross-usage suggest that each cheese type should try to borrow from the other type’s product and positioning advantages when possible, and it may bode well for the emerging dairy/non-dairy hybrid cheese segment.
