December 9, 2025 – Despite their similar origins, hot and iced coffee are distinct products in the minds of consumers. Most brands will want to have both options in a portfolio, especially since iced coffee’s ready-to-drink nature helps coffee’s own day parts beyond breakfast and locations beyond the home. Iced coffee also helps engage younger consumers, who are necessary for future growth – and a group more likely to be leaving the coffee category.
Unfortunately for both hot and iced coffee, the biggest challenge on the horizon is rising costs. In the immediate sense, tariffs in countries where coffee is grown create tension in the near term; long term, however, the biggest squeeze comes from rising temperatures and the corresponding effects on the growth cycle. Coffee brands that get involved with innovation at the cultivation level protect their interests in the long term.
