Gut Health Trends: #2 Top Global Trend for 2026

Gut health is key to overall health and is recognized by consumers

March 30, 2026 – Consumers can see and feel the effects of gut health. When their gut isn’t working right, they know it. And gut discomfort can immediately put a consumer in a bad, anxious mood. What consumers may not know, and what brands have the opportunity to promote, is not only that gut health benefits are readily accessible, but also that gut health has solid connections with other aspects of holistic health. Immunity, cognitive health, stronger bones, heart health, and other critical aspects of health can all be tied to gut health. This is the core of Innova’s Top 10 Trend 2026 #2: Gut Health Hub.

How Do Consumers See Gut Health?

Consumers recognize many connections between gut health and overall health. Health trends indicate that 3 out of 5 consumers say gut health is very important for their whole body.  However, a relatively small proportion of consumers take action toward gut health. Brands that can break through have an opportunity to capture consumer attention and make gut health accessible, affordable, and effective. To do this, brands need to help bridge the information gap with gut health products that are tasty and easy to spot on increasingly crowded shelves. Gut health improvement efforts are similar across generations, while older generations are somewhat more in agreement regarding the essentiality of gut health.

Gut Health as A Driver of Holistic Health

Gut health has a distinct edge: disruptions are easy to notice, and improvements are clear. Consumers can tell when their gut is functioning well, and gut health has gained more consumer attention, especially after the pandemic. Concerns about immunity, diets rich in fiber and protein, social media trends, and new ingredients keep gut health in focus and tied to overall wellness. People link gut health to weight management and other benefits, such as immunity, sleep, and energy. Health trends reveal that over half of consumers believe that weight management and stress relief relate to gut health. However, few actively work on improving their gut health; many just look for fiber and probiotics without fully grasping their connection. Brands may find opportunities in showing how gut health connects with other important health issues to position it as a pathway to overall health.

What Approaches do Consumers Take to Manage Gut Health?

Gut health trends show that younger generations, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, are the primary audience looking for gut health advice. Consumers of all ages mostly rely on diet changes and exercise to manage their gut health or achieve their goals. More than half of them link whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, to gut health management. This creates a challenge for brands, as these foods are often unprocessed. While it can be difficult to convey the right message on packaging, brands can help consumers understand the gut health benefits of whole foods. Trends against processed foods in many countries may make it harder to add gut health ingredients to products. However, yogurt and yogurt drinks are popular consumer choices for gut health. Beverages often allow for the addition of gut-friendly ingredients while also promoting hydration, bone health, relaxation, and energy.

What are the Claims in Gut Health?

Global health trends show that gut health claims are on the rise, creating an opportunity for brands. Highlighting additional benefits like immunity on packaging shows the connection between gut health and overall health, including immune health. Last year, global food and beverage launches with a gut health claim grew by 61%. This indicates that products with gut health claims are entering the market quickly, yet fewer than one-quarter include another health claim. This represents missed chances, such as linking gut health to weight management, particularly for the increasing number of GLP-1 users who seek nutrient density and satiety; two key advantages of fiber. Besides benefiting digestion, consumer interest in gut health products is increasing, especially for products that promote better sleep or energy. Brands are responding, with energy claims and energy drinks driving growth in food and beverage launches, while insomnia relief claims are boosting growth in supplements.

Personalization Presents Opportunity for Additional Claims

As consumers personalize their approach to health, they may respond to products geared toward their specific needs. For example, those that support sports performance, healthy aging, or gender-specific issues, such as those that arise during menopause. With increased consumer demand for personalization, watch for digestive health products positioned specifically for targeted groups such as women.

Gut Health Food and Beverage Launch Trends

Asia leads in gut health product launches, while Western Europe is in second place. Fiber and probiotics are the most common gut health ingredients, with 38% of 2025 gut health launches claiming to contain fiber and 19% claiming probiotics. Fiber and protein claims often appear together, highlighting their connection and the focus on overall health. The demand for products with no additives or preservatives is increasing as brands strive for cleaner labels. Health trends reveal that new claims like toxin-free and metal-tested are also emerging. Low-growth categories, such as ready meals, could benefit from adding gut health features. Nutrient-rich, protein-fiber meals, particularly for those on GLP-1 medications, may see growth if they meet taste and price expectations.

Supplement Trends for Gut Health

Gut health supplement launches have seen strong growth over the past four years. Until 2025, launches of gut health supplements outnumbered those of gut health food and beverages. In 2025, their launch numbers were nearly equal. Many gut health supplements use botanical and herbal ingredients, showing the appeal of natural solutions for improving gut function and overall health. Global health trends show that probiotics are also common in gut health supplement launches. Key ingredient categories: nutraceutical and functional ingredients, botanicals, vegetables, minerals, and vitamins, show how gut health features are included in products that offer broad nutritional support. Ingredients for gut health biotics are also common in gut health supplements, following the core supplement ingredients.

What’s Next in Gut Health Trends?

As gut health trends continue to grow, the next phase will focus on greater accuracy, clearer communication, and more personalized solutions. Technology, including AI and precision fermentation, will create a new wave of targeted ingredients that support digestion, weight management, mental wellbeing, performance, and healthy aging. At the same time, brands must fill the information gap by making gut health benefits easy to understand and by connecting gut health to the broader outcomes that consumers care about. Brands that succeed will treat the gut as the key to overall wellness; they will provide products that are effective, evidence-based, enjoyable, accessible, and tailored to individual needs of consumers.
