Top Consumer F&B Trends 2026 in India

In 2026, Indian F&B trends converge around health, affordability, and comfort — gut health, protein, and functional beverages lead the way.

April 13, 2026 – India’s food and beverage landscape is changing as consumers look for products that offer wellness, comfort, and value. In 2026, key food trends in India include gut health, protein-rich options, functional drinks, treats, and value for money. Indian consumers are more aware of how nutrition, digestion, mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing are connected. They still want exciting flavors, familiar formats, and small affordable luxuries. At the same time, brands are quickly innovating with clean-label ingredients, functional claims, and nostalgic elements to meet these changing expectations. Innova Market Insights looks at the top consumer food and beverage trends in India for 2026. It shows how wellness, indulgence, and affordability are coming together to shape the next phase of growth and opportunity for F&B brands.

Gut Health Trends in India: Holistic Wellness

Gut health trends in India in 2026 are becoming a gateway to holistic wellness, driving demand for broader health benefits beyond digestion. Food trends in 2026 show that 61% of consumers in India say gut health is very important for their bodies, and over half say they care about it because it improves other aspects of their wellbeing, not just digestion. Consumers in India particularly see a strong connection between gut health, sleep quality, weight management, and stress. Therefore, gut health innovations are increasingly incorporating a broader set of functional benefit claims. For example, a recent Indian launch, Hydrasalt, includes claims for energy, cognition, mood, performance, immunity, and skin health, alongside gut health.

High-Protein Driving Everyday Wellness in India

Protein remains a wellness powerhouse; shoppers are seeking it for overall wellbeing across a range of formats and occasions. Food and beverage trends in India highlight that 69% of consumers actively include more protein in their diet. Additionally, as with gut health, protein positioning is increasingly linked to a wider range of health claims, supporting holistic wellness. High protein food in India is evolving into a daily wellness expectation, with consumers actively seeking clean-label options, such as natural ingredients or minimally processed options. For example, Pintola has recently launched high-protein oats in India that contain 25g of protein and are enriched with natural ingredients. Furthermore, protein is expanding into new everyday F&B formats in India, such as chai and coffee, as big brands increasingly innovate to capture evolving consumer functional needs.

Functional Beverage Trends in India

Functional beverages in India are at the forefront of wellness innovation, with products tailored for hydration, convenience, and functionality. In fact, beverage trends show that 49% of Indian consumers have increased their beverage consumption because “they are healthy.” Key health claims in beverages include “made with real ingredients”, “no sugar”, and “source of protein”. Furthermore, beverages are evolving from simple drinks to functional snacks, blurring the line between healthy and indulgent snacking and shifting to support holistic wellness beyond hydration. Some consumers in India believe functional ingredients (collagen, prebiotics, and protein) work better or are more effective when consumed as drinks, reflecting current beverage trends. An example is the recent launch of India’s first prebiotic soda, offering a healthier alternative to regular soda. Another lever for new launches in beverages is flavor and texture. Flavor and texture experimentation create strong “wow” moments in beverages, with flavor claims acting as a key purchase driver, especially among Gen Z in India.

Health Indulgence Food Trends in India

Indulgence is evolving into a multidimensional experience, elevating the moment and mood while combining novel experiences with health benefits. Over the past year, new F&B launches with indulgent claims in the food industry in India increased by 26%. To combine wellness and comfort food, brands should prioritize “made with natural ingredients” and “low in sugar” as key approaches. For example, Juicy Cocktail, recently launched in India, is made with 100% natural ingredients and has half the sugar of regular juices. Both familiar sensations and novel inventions appeal to indulgence seekers. On the one hand, food and beverage trends in India reveal that 46% of shoppers always go for the same option when they indulge, while 66% want to explore new things. Additionally, with mental wellbeing a growing concern among Indian consumers, indulgent food and drink positioned to support mood and relaxation are gaining relevance, reflected in rising product development with premium experience flavors and mood-related claims. A recent example in India is the Stress Relief Bar from the Better Food Factory, which offers a rich and premium experience to help with unwinding and contains prebiotic fiber, known for gut health benefits.

Affordability and Value for Money in India

With economic pressures rising, affordability and accessibility are becoming key drivers of loyalty and choice in the food industry in India. 32% of consumers in India say: “Ensuring food is accessible and affordable for all is the most important value of my diet.” In response to rising prices, private labels are gaining traction in India as consumers increasingly view them as offering better value and accessibility. A key driver of value perception among households is format innovation. Top formats that Indian consumers consider good value for money include sharing packs, shelf-stable products, and single-serve portions. Additionally, affordability is being redefined in India’s F&B market through a mix of nutrition, treats, and nostalgic cues. For example, CavinKare’s new nostalgia-inspired milkshakes.

What’s Next for Consumer Food Trends in India?

The next wave of consumer food and beverage trends in India will blend value, wellness, and emotional comfort. At the same time, nostalgia is becoming a key theme. Brands are using childhood flavors, retro formats, and festival references to make indulgent and functional products feel familiar and comforting. The focus on value-driven indulgence highlights small, accessible luxuries in mini or single-serve packages. Broader lifestyle trends, such as the desire for a simpler life, more personal time, and relaxed socializing, are driving demand for convenient, low-effort options, including ready-to-drink products, grab-and-go items, and minimal-prep foods. There is also growing interest in mood and self-care products, as well as lighter, healthier choices for social occasions. Additionally, the growing use of technology and AI, despite concerns about trust and privacy, will increasingly influence how shoppers find, choose, and customize their food and beverages.
